20 Top Tips To Clean Your Bathroom

The bathroom is one of the most frequently used yet the most neglected rooms in a house. This is the last place anyone wants to be when it comes to cleaning. However, this is an important part of our day-to-day lives and one place that needs to be kept in pristine condition, just like you keep your kitchen.

Top Tips And Tricks

While cleaning a bathroom on a daily basis is not a feasible option, here are 5 effective tips for each part of your bathroom:

The Toilet

The toilet tends to get dirty and accumulate some real nasty grime in a very short period. No one really enjoys cleaning this part of the bathroom. Here is how you can do an effective job in no time:

  1. Choose a toilet cleaning brush that has stiff bristles and a curved neck so that it can reach all nooks and corners in your toilet.
  2. Scrub the inside of the toilet cover and the backside of the toilet seat as well. These are areas where germs can hide and be ignored for a very long time.
  3. Wipe down the toilet seat with a disinfectant wipe every two days to ensure it is clear of all germs that can get on there when you flush.
  4. Use a mild brush to scrub the outside of the toilet and the toilet seat, else even a disinfectant wipe will do.
  5. Do not get the acidic liquid on the toilet seat or any other part of the toilet made of plastic. The acid in the cleaning liquid tends to eat away the plastic, leaving you with nasty spots.

The Floor

Though the floor is kept dry most of the time, it cannot be ignored till you see dirt accumulating, or the surface feels slippery. Do a deep cleaning of the floors once in two weeks at least.

  1. Use a long handle floor cleaning brush with stiff bristles that can get into the gaps in the tiles.
  2. Use a mild soap solution to wash the floor once a week or once in two weeks.
  3. For stubborn grout, use a cleanser containing bleach on a stiff brush to scrub it all away.
  4. Please do not use any harsh chemicals or acidic liquids to clean your floor, no matter how stubborn the dirt is. This will leave stains on your floor that will look worse than the dirt itself.
  5. Scrub the area around the drain once in two days with the floor cleaning brush to avoid the formation of a sticky layer due to water residue or water stagnation around the drain.

The Shower & Tub

This is the area you get in to not only get clean but also relax after a long day. So keeping this place clean is very important.

  1. Wash your shower curtains with an old towel or two. Use your regular detergent. The towels will help scrub away the mildew and soap scum.
  2. For the shower door, mix up a cup of baking soda with a few drops of white vinegar to form a paste. Wipe away with a micro-fiber cloth after an hour. Rinse the door and use another dry micro-fiber cloth to get a squeaky clean door.
  3. Wipe the door frame and hinges, too, as mildew can easily form in these corners and cause the hinge to get tight over a period of time. This is a great spot for grime too.
  4. Let the tub soak in hot water for a few minutes, and then apply a regular bathroom cleaner after draining the tub. Scrub after 15 minutes for a gleaming clean tub.
  5. Scrub away the scum around the drain hole and spray a disinfectant around the tub fittings on a regular basis.

The Sink

Everyone uses an important part of the bathroom but rarely cleans due to negligence.

  1. Wipe down the area around the sink on a daily basis to avoid any building up of grime or mildew. Just a cloth is enough.
  2. Use a disinfectant spray to clean the taps and other fittings around the sink regularly.
  3. Use a soft sponge and soap or surface cleaner to wash the insides of the basin. Using a strong brush will scratch the surface.
  4. Use an old toothbrush to scrub away the grime that collects around the taps and fittings. Letting them accumulate will result in a dark stain and result in calcification of the fittings, thus resulting in tight taps that won’t close easily.
  5. Have an old soft towel tucked away below the sink to wipe your mirror after a hot bath? The steam will result in a slow build-up of mildew, and cleaning this at one shot can be tiring.

Conclusion

With the right products and a little effort on a regular basis, your bathroom can be maintained in pristine condition. Cleaning this place need not cause you any stress if you divide and conquer.
